Gone are the days when we used to root our phones in one click with an android apk file without using a computer. Kingroot was a popular rooting app until Android Lollipop. However, today most of the phones cannot be rooted even using a computer.
Even if we talk about LG Stylo 3, it is released by almost every US prepaid carrier including Boost Mobile, Cricket, Straight Talk, Tracfone, MetroPCS, T-Mobile, etc. However, except MetroPCS/T-Mobile all other variants of Stylo 3 are unrootable due to the locked bootloader. Correct me if I’m wrong. As I own MetroPCS variant of Stylo 3 I was able to root it quite easily.
Let’s check out how to root LG Stylo 3 Plus with the help of this easy to follow the tutorial –
How to Root LG Stylo 3 Plus MetroPCS MP450 / T-Mobile TP450
The pre-requisites for rooting LG Stylo 3 Plus are –
Now that you’ve flashed TWRP we are good to go.
First of all, Let’s download the necessary files required for rooting –
SuperSU – The classic superuser root app by Chainfire. You can download its flashable zip file from the below link
Magisk – A more advanced rooting app made by topjohnwu. It’s a systemless root that can work in the hidden mode without affecting apps that don’t work on a rooted phone such as a banking app. Download its flashable zip file from the below link.
Magisk Manager – We’ve to install this apk file manually after flashing the above zip file in TWRP. Download the apk file from below link.
Remember that we’re going to flash either SuperSu or Magisk. We cannot keep both at the same time. Now, Let’s start the rooting process.
We can divide the whole process into 3 steps for the ease of understanding –
STEP 1: Making a NANDroid Backup in TWRP
First of all, we’ve to boot into recovery mode to access TWRP –
To enter recovery mode –
Turn off the Phone
Press Volume Down + Power Button to boot the phone. Once the phone vibrates, release the power button and hold it until you’re the white “Factory data reset” screen as shown below.
Press volume down key to move from No(Exit) to Yes. Now press power key to confirm this action
Once again press the volume down key and confirm with Power key.
Press the power key once again to bypass unlocked bootloader warning
Now, wait for TWRP to load as shown above.
Tap on “BACKUP” and select the files you wish to include in your backup
Now click on “Select Storage” and choose whether you wish to store the backup in Internal Storage or Micro SD card.
\
Swipe the bar towards the right to initiate the backup process
Wait for the Backup to complete.
Once done, connect your phone to PC via USB Data Cable.
STEP 2 : Flashing the Magisk.zip Root File via TWRP
Wait for the MTP / File Transfer driver to install.
As the TWRP is written for a different LG phone model it’s detected as LGMS550.
The driver is installed and now we can transfer the necessary files to our phone’s internal storage.
Select the downloaded files and “Send to” “LGMS550” as shown above.
